IAN MATHESON
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Ian holds both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Materials Engineering from the University of Cape Town. He is a registered Chartered Engineer (C.Eng MIEI) and a European Engineer (Eur Ing). Additionally he was also a certified Powder Metallurgy Technologist Level 1 (APMI) and has earned an MBA from the University of Warwick.
Ian has completed training in Fire Science and Investigation at the University of Edinburgh/BRE, Fire Behaviour from the University of Stellenbosch, and received training in the USA through the International Association of Arson Investigators.
He has conducted investigations into fires, explosions, component failures and workplace accidents for a variety of clients, including insurers, police, health and safety authorities, private companies and state-owned enterprises in Ireland, Northern Ireland and South Africa. This includes incidents resulting in millions in damages and cases involving multiple fatalities.
Ian has formal training and experience as an expert witness in court, including the Coroner's Court. He also has ten years of experience as a practising engineer in the medical device and mining tools industries, focussing on metallurgical and mechanical failures. Additionally, he shares both a US and European patent.
