Ian holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Materials Engineering. He is both a registered Chartered Engineer (C.Eng MIEI) and European Engineer (Eur Ing). He was also a certified Powder Metallurgy Technologist Level 1 (APMI) and holds an MBA.
Ian has completed training in Fire Science and Investigation at the University of Edinburgh / BRE and Fire Behaviour through the University of Stellenbosch. He has conducted investigations into fires, explosions, failed components and workplace accidents for a wide range of clients including insurers, police, health and safety authorities, private companies and state-owned enterprises in Ireland, Northern Ireland and South Africa. This includes incidents with damages running into millions and incidents with multiple fatalities. He has both formal training and experience acting as an expert witness in court.
He also has ten years experience as a practising engineer in the medical device and mining industries investigating metallurgical and mechanical failures and jointly holds a US and European patent.
